I ordered this matched 14-piece knife set and block to update our current “mixed-bag” of kitchen knives. I have a Chef’s Set of Japanese knives that cost more than my first car (1961 Triumph TR-3 $1500…the knives were MORE) and a set that came with some Omaha Steaks that cost…LESS.So I got this COMPLETE set, including steak knives for SIX, Kitchen Cooking Shears, and a genuinely nice wooden block with bevel sharpener included from AMAZON. While it is true that our original mélange of mismatched cutlery does include some excellent INDIVIDUAL blades that got the job done this upgrade HAS made meal prep simpler and perhaps a little more enjoyable, too. And the overall effect of the matched block set is a nice look in our kitchen.The blades are crafted from high-quality steel and honed to a fine professional edge, making every cut smooth and precise. Less hacking and sawing, more wrist work and hand placement for optimal blade and cutting control.I appreciate the variety of knives included, from the classic 8-inch Chef’s knife to the (recently added to Western kitchens) Santoku blade for slicing, dicing, and chopping meats and vegetables without any sticking or hesitation if the cutouts that line the blade do their job. Another welcome inclusion in the block is the very handy kitchen shears. They make short work of prepping a whole chicken for frying or harvesting PAW PAW fruit during harvest time here in North Carolina. Each knife fits comfortably in my hand, thanks to the ergonomic and lightweight scales, allowing me to work for extended periods without feeling any wrist or hand strain.The solid wood block is a highlight of this set. It keeps everything secure, organized, and TOGETHER for centralized “inventory control.” The “twin” angled design makes each knife easy to reach for.
